Green Architecture is good design

Richard Skinner & Associates creates architectural designs that make sense for our clients – and the environment

Richard Skinner & Associates is committed to the standards of the U.S. Green Building Council. Healthy, sustainable architecture relies on these standards, and takes the following into account:

  • Energy use and efficiency
  • Healthy, earth-friendly materials
  • Renewable resources
  • Non-toxic products
Systems

Green Architecture - SystemsRichard Skinner & Associates is dedicated to continued research on healthy products and high performing systems as they relate to sustainable architecture in residential and other buildings. Some of these include Aquapex plumbing, geo-thermal heat exchange systems, greywater reuse, solar hot water and electronic system controls. We evaluate each project to determine the most appropriate system for each client.

Insulation

Green Architecture - InsulationWhen it comes to green architecture, insulation makes the single largest and most cost-effective impact on a building's comfort, sustainability and long-term utility savings. The science of conditioning an interior must be carefully balanced between providing an efficient building envelope and managing moisture levels. Healthy house products become even more significant when a building is properly sealed. Richard Skinner & Associates applies carefully researched insulation technologies to each building we design.

Materials

Green Architecture - MaterialsIn sustainable architecture, the selection of materials involves more than just style and texture. Instead, finishes should be selected to add longevity to the life of the building while creating a sense of appropriateness in its surroundings. The harsh climate of Florida and the surrounding region requires the consideration of many environmental factors, including UV light, high humidity, termites, salt spray, wind-driven rain, radiant heat, and hurricane-force winds.
